COVID-19 Crisis Response This year due to COVID-19 many camp staff and leaders of these camps must stay home and have to cope with their personal, job, and ministry challenges alone. The camps involve over 60,000 campers in exposing them to the gospel in a camp environment. Regular camp operations are in question for this summer, but children and youth will still be waiting for miracles from their camp teams. Urgent Needs The Association of Christian Camps and Conference Centers in Ukraine, Moldova, and Transcaucasia is bringing these camps and their leaders together to be equipped through [...]
COVID-19 Crisis Response Lighthouse Voyage exists to be a beacon of hope for sex-trafficked women and children in India. A pandemic threat like the COVID-19 crisis affects every population without prejudice, and we stand to speak for those whose voices cannot be heard through the global outcry in this season. By providing shelter, care, and rehabilitation to those individuals who are neglected and abused by their own communities, we provide healing and hope in a part of the world not characterized by widespread access to healthcare or social programs in the ways that North America is blessed to [...]
COVID-19 Crisis Response In Uganda, the government declared a total lock-down due to Corona Virus outbreak in March 2020. All schools, businesses, public transport, and all non-essential public and privates services were suspended and people are asked to stay at their homes. Once all schools were closed, all the children came back to our Child Support Centre in Kampala. This means that we must provide extra hand washing cisterns, soap, sanitizers, masks and medication and a daily healthy diet to keep them safe. Some of the children and youth who living with HIV/AIDS are most at risk since [...]
COVID-19 Crisis Response In East Africa, the CORONA SPRING may become a time of despair. So many people at risk hunger and even death. Although the number of infected persons is still low, we know that the COVID-19 crisis also has the potential to create a severe food security crisis in Africa. The region’s fragile health systems could quickly get overloaded in a widespread outbreak. FAO is particularly concerned about “the pandemic’s impacts on vulnerable communities already grappling with hunger or other crises such as the desert locust outbreak in the Horn of Africa”. COVID-19 Crisis Response Right now in Tanzania, there are 200 albino children aged 5-12 in protective custody at Mitindo School. Cement walls 8ft high, bars and an armed guard keep them safe as they are targets. Why? Witch doctors believe a body part of an albino will bring great wealth. They are taken and usually murdered. Urgent Needs Enter COVID-19 CRISIS - The school is shut, but these children remain. - Generous people from Italy were helping to support their needs. That support has stopped. - The Tanzanian government has refused to help, due to a lack [...]
COVID-19 Crisis Response During the time that ECOL’s Christian schools in Liberia are closed we are trying desperately to provide enough financial support for their 93 teachers (at 9 schools) so that they can feed their families. Since 2018, we have been assisting them with a small amount of salary subsidy from September to June when most of the pay comes from student fees and then provide their income for July and August. Annually, 74% came from student fees and 26% came from generous donors until the schools were mandated to close. Now we are relying fully on [...]
COVID-19 Crisis Response In 2001 a series of earthquakes shook El Salvador. The devastation from the earthquakes created critical and life-threatening situations. The country had been crippled by natural disasters and civil war, leaving poverty and its struggles as a lingering burden on its people. Since 2002 Shelter Canada has been working in El Salvador. With missionaries, local churches, representatives from local communities, Shelter Canada continues to build relationships through the provision of sustainable housing, all in the name of Jesus Christ. Over these years, God has enabled us to develop a growing team of indigenous, in-country staff [...]
COVID-19 Crisis Response The greatest invitation in history, in or out of crisis, is to follow Jesus - all the way to eternity. RSVP means the response to an invitation and we share the ultimate invitation to receive the gift of salvation, paid for by Jesus’ death. We must never forget that our ultimate sickness is spiritual and the ultimate cure is faith. Eternity grabs our attention when the news reports worldwide numbers of COVID deaths daily and when our regular distractions have been removed. What an opportunity to minister to the soul. We continue on our spiritual [...]
