COVID-19 Crisis Response
During the time that ECOL’s Christian schools in Liberia are closed we are trying desperately to provide enough financial support for their 93 teachers (at 9 schools) so that they can feed their families. Since 2018, we have been assisting them with a small amount of salary subsidy from September to June when most of the pay comes from student fees and then provide their income for July and August. Annually, 74% came from student fees and 26% came from generous donors until the schools were mandated to close. Now we are relying fully on the generosity of donors for their total income.
Urgent Needs
Without student fees, income for teachers has dropped from $35-40 US September to June and $30 US in July and August down to $15 US per month now and potentially as low as $8 per month by October. The United Nations classification of ‘Extreme Poverty’ is $1.90 US / day (~$38 US per month). Since the lock-down in Liberia is likely to last into 2021 there is a desperate need for more financial assistance! Your gift of $50 CAD or $36 US will provide a meal for 20 teachers and their families on a day that they will otherwise not eat anything. Our goal is to continue supporting our teachers and want to bring them above the extreme poverty line for the next 8 months. In order to do this, we need to raise at least $40,000 CAD or $29,000 US. That requires a lot of support from people like you who can help prayerfully and financially.

Covid-19 is only starting to impact Liberia. Their hospital system is not even close to adequate for their usual medical needs. Please pray for protection for God’s precious people in this impoverished country.
